Burn Notice

Welcome! The beginning of a New Year brings us hope. We look back at the year that was, and dream of the possibilities the New Year has in stall for us. Are you one to write down 2012 resolutions? I’ve asked this question to many of my clients over the recent weeks. The best response I’ve ever heard,
‘To kick Ass!’
I’m planning to ‘kick ass’ in 2012. Are you?

It has been a common belief that margarine is a healthier type of fat than butter and some of us have even been misled to believe that margarine is less fattening than butter.
As far as fat content is concerned, margarine and butter have the same amount of fat and are just as fattening as each other. Considering that the majority (23.6%) of fat in the Western diet comes from spreads and  sauces, it is recommended that you cut down on both the butter and margarine. They are both very, very high in fat. Try putting butter or margarine on just one side of your sandwich or leaving them off altogether when you have a sandwich with lots of fillings. After a short period of time, you may not notice whether you have “yellow grease” on your sandwich or not. You may even start to dislike it. In relation to your health ...
Butter is a saturated fat, which is associated with coronary heart disease.
Margarine, which is poly-unsaturated fat, has been linked to certain cancers.
The healthiest type of fat is mono-unsaturated fat, which has been found to reduce coronary heart disease. Mono-unsaturated fats are the ones found in avocado, nuts and olive oil. Where do these yummy things come from?... out of the ground!!
Quick Tip: To lose fat - try to avoid obvious fats in your diet first. Butter and margarine are a great place to start without affecting your lifestyle too much at all.
